Pui Tak Center
Pui Tak Center
The On Leong Merchant Association building (now called Pui Tak Center) was completed in 1928. This historic landmark's pagoda-shaped towers and terra cotta using Chinese motifs marks Chinatown's presence in Chicago. Along with its architectural importance, the building has always been used to serve immigrants as they begin a new life in the U.S.
When I was in Chicago over the summer, I met up with Pui Taks director David Wu. David was kind enough to give me a detailed history of Chicago Chinatown and also introduce me to the CAMOC interim president. She and I had lunch together the next day and she invited me to exhibit my work at CAMOC.
