The 1906 earthquake triggered a fire that destroyed nearly all of San Francisco, including City Hall. The immigration records housed there were lost in the flames, leading to a wave of immigration known as the “paper sons and daughters.”
When San Francisco Chinatown was rebuilt, pagodas and Oriental-style architecture—neither traditionally Chinese nor Western—were added to attract more visitors. Other Chinatowns across America soon adopted this same aesthetic.
Limited Edition Prints: All archival prints are printed on canvas and come with at least 1.5 inch bleed so they can be stretched and framed. They are also hand embellished with a splash of color, signed, numbered, and dated. This is the inaugural set of prints, and will be limited to 5 total prints of each piece.
