Flying Dragons
Flying Dragons
Eleven dragons soar over Seattle’s Chinatown-International District (CID). These impressive sculptures range in size from 12 to 200 feet and can weigh up to 300 pounds. It took two years, a high-tech production design firm, several sculptors, a boatbuilder, a painter, and a feng shui expert to bring these dragons to life. Though they appear delicate, the dragons are engineered to withstand winds of up to 90 mph.
Seattle’s CID is home to a rich tapestry of cultures, including Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Filipino communities. The sculptures were designed to help the neighborhood preserve its unique identity, standing proudly in the shadow of nearby Safeco and Lumen Fields.
