In 1978, Chinatown Ice Cream Factory introduced New Yorkers to Asian-inspired ice cream flavors. Philip Seid, the landmark ice cream shop’s founder, immigrated to the US from Taishan, China, in the early 1900s. He created unique Asian-inspired flavors such as lychee, green tea, red bean, black sesame, and egg tart. The shop became a huge success, becoming a Chinatown staple that locals and tourists visit worldwide. Now run by Christina Seid, Philip’s daughter, the store continues to offer an eclectic variety of ice cream flavors that celebrate Asian culture and heritage.
