In 1978, the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory introduced New Yorkers to Asian-inspired ice cream flavors. Founded by Philip Seid, who immigrated to the U.S. from Taishan, China, in the early 1900s, the shop quickly became a beloved Chinatown staple. Philip created unique flavors such as lychee, green tea, red bean, black sesame, and egg tart, which resonated with both locals and visitors.
Now run by Christina Seid, Philip’s daughter, the shop continues to thrive, offering an eclectic variety of ice cream flavors that celebrate Asian culture and heritage. It remains a must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike.
