This is the Chinatown Branch Library in Chicago, Illinois, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in 2015. The building’s design was inspired by the Bird’s Nest Stadium from the Beijing Olympics. During the day, its high glass curtain walls flood the interior with natural light. At night, the building glows from within, resembling a lantern when viewed from the outside.
The Lunar New Year traditionally concludes with the Lantern Festival. Celebrations include eating tangyuan, enjoying lion dances, and sharing riddles—my favorite part.
Here’s one: “What did one wall say to the other wall?”
