China House
China House
This is a drawing of the only surviving remnant of a once-thriving Chinatown—a two-story, circa-1919 group housing and store building for Chinese workers—in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. A designated city landmark, the China House is a poignant reminder of a forgotten chapter in history: the rural Chinatowns that supported many agriculturally centered communities in Southern California through Chinese labor.
Today, the China House is owned by the City but stands vacant and deteriorating, facing an uncertain future. Local preservationists and Chinese American heritage groups are actively fighting to save this important piece of history.
