This drawing depicts the only surviving remnant of a once-thriving Chinatown in Rancho Cucamonga, CA—a two-story, circa 1919 group housing and store building that served Chinese workers. Designated as a city landmark, the China House stands as a poignant reminder of a forgotten chapter in history: the rural Chinatowns that supported many agriculturally based communities in Southern California through Chinese labor.
Today, the China House is owned by the city but remains vacant and deteriorating, facing an uncertain future. Local preservationists and Chinese American heritage groups are actively working to save this important piece of history.
