In the fall of 2021, my good friend and longtime training partner, Kit Yueng, and I founded Team Self-Defense in response to the rise of anti-Asian hate. Our goal was to provide the community with peace of mind and practical self-defense skills during a challenging time.

We began our program at a senior center in the heart of Manhattan’s Chinatown and have since expanded to serve neighborhoods across New York City. Today, we teach people of all ages and backgrounds, holding classes in diverse communities—from Sunset Park to Flushing to Washington Heights.

Our work is supported by incredible partners, including Apex for Youth, Asian American Federation, Asian Americans For Equality, UA3, Raising Health, Rodney Kirk Center, Immigration Social Services, and others.
