Jonny Kim

In 2024 Jonny Kim may be the first Asian American to step foot on the moon. He is a member of America’s Artemis Team which has the goal of again landing people on the moon. Jonny Kim is not only an astronaut but also a physician, having received his M.D. from Harvard University Medical School, and a member of the United States Navy’s Sea, Air, and Land Teams, commonly known as “Navy SEALS.” Kim completed more than 100 combat operations and is the recipient of the Silver Star and Bronze Star.

As a father of three children, Kim notes, “My only expectation, which I tell my kids very, very often, is that they follow their heart.... I love it when they tell me, ‘Abba, I want to be an artist,’” using the casual, Korean word for “dad.”
