China House
China House
Drawing of the only surviving remnant of a once-thriving Chinatown—a two-story, circa 1919 group housing and store building for Chinese workers—in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. A designated city landmark, the China House represents the last remaining structure of a forgotten chapter of history, the rural Chinatowns in many agriculturally centered communities in Southern California that depended on Chinese labor. Today the China House is owned by the City, and stands vacant and deteriorating, facing an uncertain future, while local preservation and Chinese American heritage groups are fighting to save it.
